Periodontics

When it comes to oral care, your gums are just as important as your teeth! If you’re experiencing issues with your gums or other structures that support your teeth, our periodontic specialists can help.
Periodontist WinnipegHealthy teeth are supported by healthy gums. Your teeth attach to your gums just below the visible edge of the gum, and periodontal disease (gum disease) affects these attachments. Periodontics is a form of specialized dentistry that treats gum disease.

Gum disease starts with gingivitis – plaque forms and builds up on the teeth just below the visible edge of the gums, which then become inflamed and bleed easily. If this hidden plaque is not removed by regular dental hygiene appointments, it hardens into tartar. This produces more toxins, and spaces between the teeth and gums develop. These pockets become breeding grounds for infection, and over time, infection destroys the gum tissue that attaches to the tooth. This condition is now full-fledged gum disease.

While prevention with regular hygiene appointments is ideal, unfortunately, 9 out of 10 adults develop gum disease at some point. If you’re finding yourself experiencing painful bleeding gums, chronic bad breath, loose teeth, or other symptoms of gum disease, it’s important to seek treatment from our periodontic experts.
