Is snoring keeping you awake? Try with a snoring appliance

A custom snoring appliance might be able to help.

Most of us know that a good night’s sleep is one of the best things we can do for our overall health. Everything from better memory and attention to a healthy weight and even a longer life have all been linked to getting enough rest! So if snoring is keeping you or your partner up at night, it’s worth it to tackle the problem head-on. One of the options that may be able to provide you with some nighttime relief is a custom snoring appliance.

How it works

There are many different reasons that a person snores, from physical characteristics to gender, but whatever the root cause, snoring happens when air isn’t moving freely through your nose and throat while you sleep. A snoring appliance looks a little like a mouth guard that you might wear while playing sports, but it fits over both your top and bottom teeth. The appliance moves your lower jaw slightly forward, which pulls your tongue forward and creates more space for the passage of air.

How to get an appliance

The first thing to do is to book a consultation! Your dentist will talk with you about your snoring, and determine whether a snoring appliance is the right solution for you. If the answer is yes, the next step will be to capture an impression or 3D scan of your mouth, so that your appliance can be custom-made for your exact bite in our on-site lab.

Our dentists and lab technicians will collaborate on your appliance to make sure that it’s the best fit and the best solution possible for you, and when your appliance is ready – usually in about 2 weeks – we’ll have you come in to try it out! If everything looks good, you’ll be ready to take it home and test it out. We’ll book a follow-up appointment for around 2 weeks later to make sure everything is working well and make any necessary adjustments.
