Alon Golubchik
Alon graduated from the University of Manitoba in June 2020 with a Bachelor of Science with Distinction. Alon’s goal is to work as a physician, with a specialty in cardiology, neurology, or anaesthesiology. He wrote the MCAT examination in June 2020, and is currently in the process of applying to the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba.
Throughout his academic career, Alon has worked diligently and with determination to maintain high grades and a high GPA of 4.32. As a result of this dedication to his studies, Alon has achieved several academic recognitions, including the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award, the Governor General’s Academic Medal, and the President’s Scholarship. In addition, he has extensive community service experience, volunteering at organizations such as the St. Norbert Personal Care Home, Manitoba Housing Food Services, and the Saul and Claribel Simkin Center, and has been recognized with the City of Winnipeg Youth Role Model Award, the Mark and Dorothy Danzker Scholarship for Excellence, and the Councillor John Orlikow Community Leadership Award.
Chloe Gawne
Chloe graduated from École Kelvin High School in June of 2020 with an overall average of 99.2% in her Grade 12 courses, and was awarded the Governor General’s Medal in recognition of her academic success. During her time at Kelvin, Chloe volunteered as a part of the Holiday Breakfast team, which fundraises for and hosts an elementary school for a day of activities and gifts, and took part in the school’s Grade 9 Mentorship Program, where she welcomed newcomers to Kelvin with guidance and companionship.
Outside of school, Chloe kept busy working a part-time job and playing sports; throughout fall and winter, she spent many hours each week on the ice playing for the AA Magic ringette team. She also played for the Kelvin ultimate team during the fall season and trained throughout the winter to defend their two-time national champion title at the 2020 Canadian High School Ultimate Championships, which was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19.
This fall, Chloe is starting her Bachelors of Science at the University of Winnipeg. She looks forward to a future in the health sciences and to helping people in her community with her intelligence, determination, and kindness.
