Regular Checkups Helped This Patient Avoid Future Issues.

A missing adult tooth could have posed problems, but our team was ready with a lasting solution.

Most of us are relatively familiar with what to expect when it comes to the normal development of a child’s teeth: from about ages 7 to 12, our primary, or “baby,” teeth will be replaced with permanent, or “adult” teeth. However, things don’t always go exactly according to plan, and that’s why it’s important to have an ongoing schedule of visits with your dentist from an early age. By keeping an eye on things from the beginning, we can be ready to address issues that come up before any lasting effects are seen.

A missing adult tooth means more than an incomplete smile.
Thanks to regular ongoing check-ups, we knew that this young patient of Dr. Mollot’s had a congenitally missing lower premolar – put in simpler terms, a permanent tooth did not develop beneath one of her primary molars. This meant that when the primary tooth eventually failed and came out, there would be no adult tooth replacement. A missing tooth is more than just a cosmetic concern; the gap will cause surrounding teeth to drift and tilt, leading to bite issues and other problems, and will also cause the jaw bone to weaken and shrink. We were ready and waiting with a plan.
Dr. Mollot and his team kept an eye on the situation, and when the baby tooth eventually failed, we were ready to take action by replacing the missing adult tooth with a dental implant. “This allowed us to preserve the two teeth on either side of the space,” says Dr. Mollot, “and provide her with a dental implant restoration that looks and feels just like a natural tooth!”

Thanks to our state-of-the-art technology, on-site lab, and experienced dental team, we were able to place the dental implant quickly and efficiently in a single visit under local freezing. The result is a long-lasting, natural, and comfortable solution that will prevent major issues in the future.
