How Dr. Kindrat is Giving Back.

Participating in organized dentistry is rewarding, and helps Dr. Kindrat to continually advance his own skills.

Truly being part of any community means getting involved and giving back, and that extends to our professional lives. All of our dentists participate in teaching positions and as members of various industry committees or associations, and for Dr. David Kindrat, the reasons boil down to that basic foundation.

“It’s about staying in touch with the dental community,” he says, “and about giving back. Dentistry has given me a lot in terms of job satisfaction and life satisfaction.”

In volunteering his time, Dr. Kindrat hopes to pass along his enthusiasm for the profession and help to advance the dental industry in Winnipeg.

Over the years, Dr. Kindrat has been involved with teaching positions at the University of Manitoba College of Dentistry and dentistry organizations like the Manitoba Dental Association. These days, he’s in year 4 of a 7-year term with the Winnipeg Dental Society (WDS), a position that is especially gratifying as Dr. Kindrat was nominated to this board by his industry peers.

“Working with the people involved is number one,” Dr. Kindrat says of what he most enjoys in this role with WDS. “Keeping in touch with colleagues and what they are doing is excellent, and supporting the next generation of dentists is wonderful too.”

As Lecture Coordinator, Dr. Kindrat is kept busy planning and organizing lectures for WDS members.

“Part of the job is ensuring that we have a topic list diverse enough that it keeps all members interested,” Dr. Kindrat explains, stressing that it’s also important to bring in “top-quality speakers – leaders on their aspect of dentistry.”

In addition to the higher-level planning, Dr. Kindrat also works hard to manage the details of each event, whether that’s coordinating travel and accomodations for the various lecturers or nailing down the right venue.

“It’s all a fair amount of work,” Dr. Kindrat admits, “but it’s pretty rewarding to meet these people who are key opinion leaders, and bring them to your members. Education is about staying on the cutting edge of what’s new and what’s evolving, and it’s cool to be involved in that on the ground level.”

As dentistry and dental technology evolve, continued learning has allowed Dr. Kindrat to grow his skills and expertise as well.

“Your interests ebb and flow over time,” he says, “but the profession has kept my interest piqued in terms of the style of dentistry that has evolved to what we do on a daily basis.”

Dr. Kindrat plans to continue his involvement with organizing dentistry following his current position, and may actually find himself on the other side of the podim someday in the near future!

“Looking beyond the next 3 years with WDS, I’ll probably get involved with teaching again, and even with lecturing in areas of dentistry that most interest me.”
