Cosmetic Dentistry – More than Just Pearly Whites

More and more people are going for it with cosmetic dentistry in Winnipeg!

If there’s something about your smile that you’re not quite happy with, you’re not alone! Cosmetic dentistry of all kinds is very popular with adults of all ages. Taking the step to address that nagging issue can completely transform your smile, and your confidence along with it – and often, your oral health will actually benefit, too.

If you’re curious about cosmetic dentistry in Winnipeg, here’s some basic information about exactly what it is, and the various types of cosmetic dentistry services we offer at Tuxedo Dental Group.

What is cosmetic dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry is a blanket term used for dental procedures where the primary goal of the procedure has to do with the appearance of your teeth, possibly including your bite or gums. Cosmetic dentistry procedures can address anything from colour to shape or size to the positioning of your teeth, and the end result is a more aesthetically pleasing smile. That being said, cosmetic procedures can often have additional non-cosmetic benefits as well; for example, orthodontics to correct tooth alignment can make your dental hygiene routine more effective, optimize bite, and minimize tooth wear.

Type of cosmetic dentistry

  • Teeth Whitening
One of the most popular forms of cosmetic dentistry is teeth whitening. Teeth Whitening procedures are used to whiten and brighten the natural shade of your tooth enamel, or to remove stains that have built up on your enamel over time, possibly due to things like drinking coffee or smoking. We offer two forms of teeth whitening at Tuxedo Dental Group: an accelerated in-clinic option, and an at-home solution. The important thing to note is that, unlike over-the-counter products, both options are fully dentist-supervised, customized to your needs and goals, and safe.

  • Dental Veneers

A veneer is a very thin layer of porcelain or composite resin that is bonded to a tooth, covering the tooth’s surface. Veneers are most often used in cosmetic dentistry, to improve the appearance of a tooth or multiple teeth. The veneer provides a new tooth surface that can remedy wearing or chipping, surface imperfections, or colour of the natural tooth. Veneers can also be used to modify spacing, alignment, length, or shape.

  • Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is another way that cosmetic dentistry can alter the natural tooth surface. A resin material is applied to the tooth, then hardened with a special light. This causes the material to “bond” to the natural tooth, and, similar to veneers, can alter the colour, shape, surface, and other features of the tooth. Dental bonding can also be used to repair decayed, chipped. or cracked teeth.
  • Dental Crowns
In cosmetic dentistry, a crown is used to repair and strengthen a damaged or compromised tooth, to replace a missing tooth as part of a dental implant assembly, or to replace multiple missing teeth as part of a dental bridge. A dental crown is custom-made for your mouth and teeth, through a highly technical process of scanning, milling, and characterizing. Dental crowns in cosmetic dentistry today are so natural-looking and comfortable that they can be nearly indistinguishable from your natural teeth!

  • Dental Implants
A dental implant is a replacement for the root portion of a natural tooth. The implant supports a restoration such as a dental crown, which replaces the visible part of the missing or damaged tooth. Implant-supported restorations can be used in cosmetic dentistry to replace one tooth or several, or for full removable or permanent dentures. Implants are permanent and strong, and the resulting restorations both look and feel totally natural.
