The TDG Education Bursary

The Tuxedo Dental Group Education Bursary is awarded to a deserving student, accepted into a post-secondary education program, who has demonstrated previous high academic achievement and strong leadership.

The recipient will be known to the Group and have a definitive educationally-based career plan, enjoy a broad base of interests and accomplishments and be involved in the community.

The application for the Bursary for 2011/2012 may be downloaded and formally directed by mail to the partners of The Tuxedo Dental Group, supported with a curriculum vitae and an independent letter of endorsement. (Download TDG Bursary Application here)

2010/2011 Heather Maxted

Heather Maxted Heather graduated (honours with distinction) in June 2010 from the advanced placement program at Shaftsbury High School in Winnipeg. She scored among the top 25% in Canada for the Fryer, Cayley, and Fermat mathematics competitions offered by the University of Waterloo. She received early acceptance to the University of Manitoba and will enter University 1 this fall on scholarship. Heather is registered in the pre-requisite courses required for entrance to the Faculty of Law.

In addition to her remarkable academic achievements, Heather is an accomplished athlete. In each of the past 3 years she has been a competitive dancer both Provincially (4 Gold and 2 Gold Honours) and Nationally (Silver, 2 Gold, 3 Elite Gold). She is a Junior Women’s competitive curler playing third on the Shannon Birchard rink. Their team have been competitors at the Manitoba Junior Women’s Provincial Championships for the past 4 years. In 2009/10 their team qualified and won Gold at the Manitoba Games in addition to winning the Junior Women’s Provincial Championship. They will represent Manitoba in the under 18 International Bonspiel in Toronto in 2011.

2009/2010 Amanda Bowyer, R.D.A.

Amanda Bowyer Amanda grew up in Southdale and Graduated from J.H. Bruns Collegiate. In 2006 she Graduated with Honours from Red River Community College, obtaining her R.D.A. certificate (Dental Assisting) with an Orthodontic Module. Amanda began working full time with TDG directly after graduation. In 2009 Amanda and her husband Peter welcomed their son Ethan into the world!!

In addition to providing chairside assisting, Amanda manages the Tuxedo Dental Group Youth Hygiene Program, providing dental hygiene care for the children and youth in a “kids friendly” environment.

Amanda was accepted to CDI College this fall working to obtain her Scaling Module for December 2010. She hopes to be among the first graduating class in this new advancement program.

 

2008/2009 Mr. Tom Janaway, B. Phys. Ed.

Tom Janaway Tom grew up in Charleswood and graduated from Oak Park High School in Winnipeg in 2001.  During his time there he was a member of the Oak Park Raiders Football and Hockey teams.  He then earned a Bachelors in Physical Education from the University of Manitoba in 2005.  Tom subsequently applied and was accepted to the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry in 2008.  He has worked as a dental laboratory technician and as a Certified Personal Trainer(C.P.T.) at the Rady Jewish Community Centre. 

Congrats Tom on your acceptance to Dentistry!!

UPDATE:  Tom has completed his second year of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba.

 

2007/2008 Mr. Chris Murata, B. Comm(Hons.)

Chris Murata Chris graduated from St. Paul's High School '00 in Winnipeg and then earned his Bachelor of Commerce(Hons.) degree, majoring in Accounting and Finance from the University of Manitoba in 2004.  He then joined The Tuxedo Dental Group as our Accountant, a role that has expanded to include the designation of Office Manger.  Chris has now enrolled in the Certified Managerial Accountant(C.M.A.) program which he plans to complete by 2010.

Chris enjoys a combination of baseball and sushi and we understand that he cooks up a mean batch of K.D.! Congratulations Chris!

 

 

2006/2007 Ms. Emily Kenny, B.F.A.

Emily Kenny Emily graduated from Kelvin High School in 2001 and then went on to the University of Manitoba where she earned her Bachelor in Fine Arts, majoring in Ceramics.  She is currently in her second year of a three year program at George Brown College in Toronto and will graduate as a Registered Dental Technologist(R.D.T.) in 2009.

Emily recently earned the rank of Sargeant in the Reserves as a member of the Queens Own Rifles in Toronto.  She mentored in our on-site laboratory during the summer of 2007 leaving no doubt in our minds that she will be an asset to any dental laboratory in the fabrication of beautiful cosmetic restorations. Way to go Emm!

UPDATE:  Emily obtained her R.D.T. designation in 2009 from George Brown College. She is currently a ceramist in a commercial dental laboratory in Toronto.  Congrats Emily!
